How the ski base layers rankings work

A base layer is the garment closest to your skin. Its job is to move sweat away from the body so it can evaporate.

We rank 14 ski base layers in three price ranges: Smart Buy (under $60, 4 products), Sweet Spot ($60 to $100, 5 products), and Top Shelf (over $100, 5 products). Regular prices run from $16.99 to $129. Each ranking holds at most five products, and a product appears in one price range only.

Breathability makes up 45% of every score and comfort and fit 25%. Odor control, and durability count 15% each.

Scores come from manufacturer specifications, independent reviews and owner reviews. We do not test products in person. How we score.
