About ThreadTested

ThreadTested ranks technical clothing for running, hiking and cycling. Each ranking explains how its products were scored, so you can check the reasoning before you buy.

All rankings use the same published method and show the date they were last updated.

What the name means

"Tested" in ThreadTested refers to the scoring method: every product goes through the same criteria and the same weights. It does not mean we test products in person. Our scores come from manufacturer specifications, independent reviews and owner reviews, and every ranking says so at the top of the page.

About the creator

I'm the creator of ThreadTested. I've been hiking for a couple of years, and two pieces of gear from those hikes stuck with me.

The first was a pair of mountain boots that promised a comfortable day out. I finished the hike with blisters on my feet. The second was a rain jacket I didn't expect much from. It kept me completely dry in heavy rain.

Two products don't make a test. That's why ThreadTested scores gear from manufacturer specifications, independent reviews and owner reviews instead of one person's experience, mine included. I don't test products myself, and every ranking says so at the top.
