How the ski mid layers rankings work
A mid layer goes over the base layer and holds in body heat.
We rank 12 ski mid layers in three price ranges: Smart Buy (under $60, 2 products), Sweet Spot ($60 to $150, 5 products), and Top Shelf (over $150, 5 products). Regular prices run from $24.20 to $300. Each ranking holds at most five products, and a product appears in one price range only.
Warmth makes up 45% of every score and breathability 25%. Weight and packability, and durability count 15% each.
Scores come from manufacturer specifications, independent reviews and owner reviews. We do not test products in person. How we score.
