How the cycling jackets rankings work
An outer layer is the shell that keeps rain out of the layers under it.
We rank 14 cycling jackets in three price ranges: Smart Buy (under $100, 4 products), Sweet Spot ($100 to $250, 5 products), and Top Shelf (over $250, 5 products). Regular prices run from $49.99 to $530. Each ranking holds at most five products, and a product appears in one price range only.
Waterproofing makes up 45% of every score and breathability 25%. Fit and mobility, and durability count 15% each.
Scores come from manufacturer specifications, independent reviews and owner reviews. We do not test products in person. How we score.
